Custom Polymers Quality Trade Show Display

Recently we have completed design, construction, shipping and setup of a series of new trade show displays for Custom Polymers, Inc., and Custom Polymers PET, LLC.

The vision of Custom Polymers’ Amy Morgan-Felix, whom is in charge of the company’s trade show presence, was for the displays to fill the space as they would at an art gallery. Completing the concept of this visual space, she requested that the design include pedestals for smaller art, huge canvas prints of photos of their products, storage for literature and drinks, and a ridiculous amount of seating. The following is the result.

One side of the Trade Show Display

The Layout

The first thing you see, if you’re within a few hundred feet of the display, is the 12′ wide by 3′ tall rotating banner with both the company’s logo and taglines. 2000 watts of incandescence light this sign from below, giving it a punch that makes it’s peers pale, dull, and tremendously lackluster in comparison.
The next thing you will see, as you get nearer, is gigantic 8′ wide by 12′ tall canvas prints of close up shots of their recycling products. There were 8 total images of this size filling the 30′ x 50′ trade show display space.
A few steps closer, and you start to see the pedestals that are close to you each support beautiful clear glassware filled with plastics recycling products like regrind, amorphous, fiber, parts, purge, and pellets. There are more than two times the amount of pedestals compared to the large prints, bringing the interest down from 12′, to the graphic text points at 7′, to the gorgeous array of pedestals at 3′, and finally down to the main selling point: great big fluffy white comfortable looking chairs all over the place.
The two styles of chairs provide comfort and relaxation to those that have been walking the trade show floor all day. One style more functional, the other of a style that is meant for sinking into, being stuck there, and accomplishing nothing for a small span of time. At this point, as if it wasn’t enough, the newcomers are offered drinks from the kitchen structure created between two of the large canvas prints.
Then one of the custom polymers team can sit down and chat with the display’s new victims.

Stage Set Decoration and Scenery for the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce

Stage Sets and Branding

This image only requires a fairly simple explanation. The shot was taken inside our shop at completion of a project for the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce. The pieces are comprised of logo elements and will occupy the stage during large presentations.

Creation of the displays

These visually rich displays were designed for the Old Dominion corporate interior design by Perkins Will, then fabricated, built, installed, and spiffied up by Gelbach Designs. Once the files were received, printing began and continued here for many days on our wide format solvent printer. The greatest amount of time in printing is on the wallpaper that comprised the rather epic image of the truck in transit that you will see below. The rest of the images are combinations of sintra mounted vinyl prints and translucent materials brought together for a truly vibrant, strong branding message for Old Dominion’s headquarters.

Spatial Branding

The designers of this project specialize in ‘corporate environments’. Relatively new in the field of interior design, the branch ‘spatial branding’ is, as it’s name implies, a branding approach to interior design focusing on user experience and long lasting impression. In simple terms, the graphics that Perkins Will designed for this Old Dominion headquarters make the space more impressive, and drive home their branding messages for both employees and visitors alike. Gelbach Designs made sure that these designs became a reality in the most flawless way possible.

Perkins+Will

The company that designed the interiors that you see in these images is Perkins+Will. Our company, Gelbach Designs, then fabricated and installed everything once the designs were approved in a manner that was interactive with both Perkins+Will and Old Dominion. Raycom Studio Set Design

Raycom Sports

We have recently designed, constructed, and installed a studio set design for Raycom sports. The set is a variant on our Complete Array Set product, created to fit in and accent a smaller area properly.

Materials

Like many of our array style sets, this studio set design features powdercoated steel and translucent neutrals and blues. It front lights or back lights fantastically for a whole different feel using just a few colored gels or gobos.

TV Set Design for Wayne State University

TV Set Design for Wayne State University

This is an image of a simple TV set design for Wayne State University, set up in the front of our shop (Which will one house our offices. Note drywall studs). This simple, but attractively chromatically minimal set was created as a backdrop for a college broadcast in a way that will be extremely versatile.

The set design principle for this particular broadcast is to lack color in the set surfaces; rather to provide the hue and vibrancy with lighting. Using this technique, any type, style, or subject of broadcast can be identified with color and quick temporary graphic applications with something removable like velcro.

Set Design Materials

This set is mainly PETG; it is the same material used in plastic soda bottles. On this material, we have applied white or silver translucent vinyl, completely covering the surface to add variation to both transparency and color. Otherwise, the wall base skins are a silvery laminate, and the 1″ square steel tube frames are powder coated silver.

Broadcast Set Design - AIT Nigeria

AIT Lagos, Nigeria

Our own Ken Gelbach just recently got back from Lagos, Nigeria where he was helping our clients from AIT (like the CNN of africa) set up and tweak their broadcast studio set to perfection. The entirety of the set took quite many people a good deal of time to complete, with fantastic looking results.

Studio Layout

The complete studio set has four separate broadcast talent positions. First, a comfortable at-home feel for small group interviews. This area is perfect for a less formal interview format presentation such as a talk show. Next a large video wall area for standing presentations with a fantastic backdrop of motion graphics and video segments. Last is a more formal, but entertainingly abstract news format area complete with news desk style studio furniture and vibrant textures.

Banner Sign

A hanging banner sign we’ve just recently created for Intrinsics held by our own Jon and Judy (from left to right). This banner sign will be hanging above the clients trade show booth, doing a great deal to identify their position and draw attention to the exhibit. Huge signs that are difficult to miss are no secret in the trade show industry.

Typically, any company goes with the largest and most visually obtrusive signage they can justify the cost of by the leads they will obtain during that trade show. This sign design is no exception, as it would grab even the sign wariest eyes in the show.
